Do you suffer from tight hips? Are you looking to release stored up tension?
In yoga it is believed that tension is held within the hips. Yoga postures that open the hips release that stored up tension, so we can feel lighter and free!
Tension can build up over time due to a hectic lifestyle, sitting down for prolonged periods of time and frequent stress.
When stressed, we tense up, hunch our shoulders and clench our jaw - this is called the 'tension triangle' and is a common result of sitting down concentrating on a computer screen for extended periods of time.
Whilst tension will build up in the neck, shoulders and back it can also result in weak or tight hip flexors. Poorly managed hip flexors can impact movement and breathing.
This short sequence works with a deep hold in downward frog pose, before tucking the pelvis under the body to open the hips even further in upward frog pose.
Come back and practice this sequence as often as you feel you need to. Whenever you're feeling a build-up of tension or stress, take 5 minutes to practice these poses.
These hip opening poses are also great at releasing emotions held in the hips.
